Calvo Fisher & Jacob Opens Dallas Office Focused on Tax Practice

January 3, 2012

Calvo Fisher & Jacob announced today that it is opening an office in Dallas, Texas focused on domestic and international tax matters.

The new office will be anchored by William P. Davis, one of the nation’s leading  tax controversy practitioners, who will be joining the firm as a partner.  Also joining the firm is associate Bejan (BJ) Ghatrehee who most recently practiced with Davis at Kroney Morse Lan, PC in Dallas.  Their practice focuses on domestic and international tax matters for individuals and corporations, including tax planning, estate planning, and tax controversies before the IRS and U.S. and foreign courts and administrative agencies.

“Bill is a long-time friend of the firm and we’re tremendously excited to have him join us,” said Calvo Fisher & Jacob founding partner Eduardo “Champ” Calvo, who is based in the Guam office.  “Bill and BJ bring world-class tax expertise to the firm. They will be a great fit with our existing practice – allowing us to expand our litigation work to include tax matters, as well as providing tax advice to our existing clients, while our litigators and transactional lawyers assist Bill’s clients with their general litigation and business issues.”

“I’m very pleased to be joining my friends at Calvo Fisher & Jacob and looking forward to expanding my practice in California, Guam, and throughout the Pacific region,” said Davis.  “The firm provides a strong international platform, which has become increasingly important in the tax world as the IRS focuses enforcement efforts on overseas assets.”

Davis’ practice focuses on sophisticated income tax and estate planning, trust planning, asset protection, charitable planning, and probate.  He has more than 25 years experience in tax controversy matters, handling federal and state taxpayer examinations, appeals, civil and criminal tax litigation in state and federal courts. He is a frequent lecturer at various national and international institutes and seminars on domestic and international tax controversy and tax compliance matters.  He is an active member of the State Bar of Texas, Taxation and Criminal Justice Sections, American Bar Association – Tax Section (Committee on Civil and Criminal Penalties, Chairman of the Attorney-Client and Constitutional Privileges Sub-Committee), and Federal Bar Association – Taxation Section.  Davis received a J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law and B.A. from Vanderbilt University.

Ghatrehee’s practice includes individual and entity tax planning, estate planning, and tax controversy representation (civil and criminal) before the IRS, U.S. courts, foreign courts, and administrative agencies.  He received a J.D., cum laude, from SMU Dedman School of Law in 2009 and B.S., summa cum laude, from University of Texas at Dallas in 2004.
